I'm working on the talk I'm going to give at the SDForum SAM SIG this
Wednesday[1] and I'm trying to find an example which I'm pretty sure I
read in one of Christopher Alexander's books but which I can't find
now. I'm hoping someone else here will recognize it and be able to
point me to the right book if not the right page. Anyway, he's
talking about the social dynamics in different cultures and talks
about some Latin American culture (Peru maybe) where women are
supposed to stay inside the home which means that houses in this
culture need to have a sort of semi-private part of the hause from
which you can still see what's going on outside because otherwise
women will be completely cut off from the world.

If this rings any bells, please let me know.

-Peter

You're probably thinking of _The Timeless Way of Building_ by
Christopher Alexander. More specifically, the chapter "The Reality of
Patterns". In my copy, the example you appear to be referring to is on
Pages 299-300.

Yup, that's the one. Thanks!
