Hi,

Mario Mommer just created the eurolisp mailing list on common-lisp.net.

The list is intended for discussions about meetings, jobs and other
stuff that is interesting for Lispers in Europe. General information
about the mailing list is at: http://common-lisp.net/mailman/listinfo/eurolisp

Strange that the only language for this EUROPEAN mail list is "English USA" !^
At least, it could've been British English, with perhaps Latin as an option...

When I set this, there was no other English option than "English USA"!
I selected every single alternative in order to be maximally inclusive,
and like you, I cringed anyway. Maybe we can hack the HTML template or
something. In particular, I assume French people would really notice.

But it's interesting you post this, because I was actually going to ask
a question about general cultural/legal issues about communication
language.

I personally think this list will actually make it easier to
communicate in one's native language. Because of less crossposting,
which tends to increase the likelihood of English dominating. Now, I
think Cologne people have an easier time to speak in German if they
wish, and I can pop over to the Beneluxers and eavesdrop on their
stories of Lord Seriousness with Babelfish.

But yeah; what you mentioned is annoying, and I can only hope that we
look at the upside: Europeans will finally have a brief taste of what
it's like to be on the other end of imperialism.

;)

Tayssir

I don't understand what you're talking about. When I go to the URL above,
the first thing I see is a button "View this page in" and a list of quite
a few European languages.

Ok, sorry. The browser I used did not display the pop-up menu for the
language so I thought that it was constrained to the one default
language.
