The CoSy project, to be funded within the EC 'Cognitive Systems'
initiative, is summarised here, along with a first draft
description of the Birmingham part:
    http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/research/projects/cosy/

There are two posts to be filled at the University of Birmingham.

The job description, expected qualifications, and instructions on
how to apply can be found here
    http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/news/jobs/

This project aims to understand how to design a robot which
integrates, within an appropriate architecture, a variety of
capabilities that are normally studied separately in various
fragmented sub-branches of AI, cognitive science, neuroscience,
psychology, linguistics, etc. -- e.g. the robot should combine
visual perception, manipulation of 3-D objects on a table,
finding its way around rooms and corridors, communication in
natural language, learning, planning, problem-solving and some
self-understanding.

There are seven European universities involved, and it is
expected that there will also be informal collaborators, as the
project will use open source and have an open web site.

The Birmingham part will focus, at least initially, on the robot
able to manipulate 3-D objects on a table.

The project will be funded for 18 months initially, extendable to
four years (standard EC practice).

We expect the project to start on 1st September 2004.

Applicants should have read the above documents, and should be
experienced AI researchers with a research publication record.
One of the posts will require robotics experience.
Deep familiarity with at least one AI language will be an
advantage.

Closing date is 10th June 2004, though late applications may be
considered.
Informal enquiries can be made to the two Principal Investigators
at Birmingham:
    Dr Jeremy Wyatt <·········@cs.bham.ac.uk>
    Professor Aaron Sloman <········@cs.bham.ac.uk>
