Programmer position: Bioinformatics, Common Lisp, Python.

I'm quiting my current job to start on my Phd studies, so we need 
a replacement. This job is at least partially will involve lisp 
programming, even though the official job advertisement does not
mention it. We are looking for a person with good software development 
and bioinformatics skills, but we will prefer a good software developer.
The purpose of the position is to make bioinformatics software and
techniques available for norwegian researches. 

For example, we have developed a number of online/web based applications 
based on the research done at CBU/University of Bergen, and other norwegian 
universities. As a part of this we have developed our own inhouse application 
server that runs our bioinformatics web applictions. The server is written in 
common lisp. The bioinformatics applications themselves are written in either 
Python or Common Lisp. 

The job will be in an academic environment, and there will be much room
for creativity with respect to the development. We are more interested
in developing useful software than applying the most fashionable 
techniques.

Programmer position - bioinformatics

A fulltime position as a programmer is available within the Computational 
Biology Unit (CBU) at the Bergen Center for Computational Science (BCCS), 
Unifob AS. BCCS is a research institute with 45 employees counting more than 
10 different nationalities. CBU is a laboratory devoted to research in bio-
informatics, and also provides services in bioinformatics to Norwegian 
researchers working within functional genomics. The programmer recruited will 
work in the service group of CBU. 

Services offered by this group are for example: consultancy, assistance in writing 
computer programs, assistance in designing and maintaining databases, or assistance 
in writing web interfaces to scientific programs. The group currently includes two 
scientists and one programmer.

The ideal candidate for this position has a master in bioinformatics, 
programming skills in different languages, experience from different operating 
systems, knowledge of databases and web programming. Candidates with a master 
in computational science/informatics will also be considered. Experience from 
bioinformatics or from related scientific fields is an advantage.
