Ok, I am retreating from the battle, bloodied but unbowed.
Plan A was to deliver a universal GUI.
Plan B is to produce a GUI /in principal/ portable to any CL environment
(well, on Win32 or X11-endowed platforms).
ie, I give up. I have something working under both ACL and LW which uses
only the FreeGlut window manager and OpenGL. I managed to get a clean
compile under Corman, ran it, it crashed, to hell with it. :) CLisp
crashed loading ASDF, read my mind.
Plan B includes generating enough interest in Cello that those who know
other CLs (in sharp contrast with me) can figure out the subtle
differences required to get those other CLs working. Or I will pay folks
to do the same.
So now I am talking to someone about doing a mission-critical CMUCL/X11
port, and myself will start documenting Cello and extending its widget
set. I develop on win32 under ACL, and so far LW/w32 Just Works, so when
I think I have enough doc/widgets to share I'll let any interested
win32ers know with an announcement here.
Dance, Marc, dance!
:)

CLISP loads ASDF just fine for me (CVS head on linux)

Sorry for the apparent slam. I'm sure it would for me, too, with more or
less digging. I'm just a hopeless whiner. The spirit of that whole
sequence was that all my energy is going into learning new
implementations and figuring out why one that works here does not work
there. And even on my familiar ACL ground, I could not get a simple
win32 event loop brought over from LW to see anything but non-client events.
I think Plan B will get Cello ported to Corman and CLisp soon enough,
but with much less hairpulling over here. Marc better dance while he can. :)

Hmm. It's _supposed_ to work (and does, for whatever version of CLisp
on Linux I have installed here). What happened? Email if you prefer.

Just tried it, all is well. But then I have both a new CLisp and a new
ASDF, so who knows?
Hey, if UFFI supported CLisp I could give Cello/CLisp a try. For Corman
I created a loader that simply loads every file from my personal hacks
thru Cells to UFFI to GL to Cello, don't even need ASDF as long as I am
not developing there. But I also had to extend UFFI to cover Corman, and
attempting the same for CLisp would violate my new policy of not
sweating specific implementations just yet.
Any chance of UFFI for CLisp?
