says of ACL 6.0:

"Editor has limited power unless you use the optional Emacs connection."

What constitutes the unique power of Emacs as a development editor compared
to the ACL editor?  Trying Emacs, it seemed the inferior choice due to
coarser integration and few benefits I know of.
