Hello.
I'm a general applications programmer in New York State. I'm interested
in learning LISP. At this point I'm approaching it as a hobby.
Can anyone recommend a good book to get started with?
TIA
Dave
Recommending beginner books is always problematic because we each come to Lisp
with different experiences and expectations. I started with"Lisp, 3rd Edition"
by Winston and Horn. The FAQ for the newsgroup also has some other beginner
books that might be worth looking into.

My recommendation is also Winston and Horn. It starts from basics
without being dragging for someone who already knows another
programming language. Plus, it's very readable.
