Can someone recommend a place to look for example code to
help me learn lisp? Hopefully some not-too-huge stuff that
will run under Linux/clisp. Thank you.

Check the CMU Common Lisp Repository:

  ftp://ftp.cs.cmu.edu/user/ai/lang/lisp/

You'll find both tiny bits of code and substantial applications. Have fun.
