Hi,

Has anyone considered CoSource for furthering Lisp? Although I suspect
the number of Lisp users accessing it directly is small, it could be
used in conjunction with this group.

For example, I would be willing to pay a few dollars for someone to
bring CLISP closer to ANSI - if many others feel the same we could stick
a proposal on CoSource and someone would be paid to do it.

I don't mean to pervert the normal course of free-software:
- I would expect the Clisp maintainers to get the contract
- The amount would be nominal, unless there was huge interest
- The result is free software

If people are interested, have a look at www.cosource.com. I should
declare a slight involvement myself - I'm doing some simple C coding
(extending NetPbm to produce CYMK tiff files) for $100. It's not
exactly my going rate(!), but a token amount makes development more
fun... (imho).

Just a thought.

PS Or how about a monetary incentive to get a free CLIM?!

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. CoSource (http://www.cosource.com) is a web
site that allows you to submit "requests" for software development. If
people think the request is a good idea, they can commit money to it.
Developers can also make proposals (with prices). At some point, when
the original request author is happy with a proposal, and there is
enough money, the chosen developer is told to start work. When you
finish, you get paid.

The finished code must be under some kind of public licence and is
released to the community.

CoSource make money by charging a commission (the whole thing is just
starting at the moment - I'd like to see their estimates for how it will
take off).

As I said, I don't think "full price" projects are very likely to
succeed - I see it more as offering encouragement for people who would
do code anyway. But I may be wrong (and I guess CoSource think
otherwise).
