Puoi sempre provare Emacs.
altre cose :)

Transl:
You can always try Emacs. It is not small but it works for many other
things too. :)

Thank you for your answer, but I don't know what is Emacs.
Can you explain me with 3, 4 words.

Common Lisp, ILOG Talk).

;-)

I usually use the appellative "The total application" :)

But just try and insert a clip art in your Lisp program.

Or try to crash either emacs or your computer from within emacs (emacs
19). Alternatively try opening and editing 2GB binary files in Word, or try
running a colour-coded-three way diff inside Word while running the debugger
and doing some fancy symbolic algebra in other windows.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

And while we're at it, I think of emacs mostly as an operating system. I
remember somebody calling it a meso-kernel, which sounds even more sexy.

I've actually done that. :(

Heh.

I've heard it called a full-screen shell, which is also kinda
accurate. Once upon a time, when I was a much sicker individual than
I am now (praise "Bob"!), I had the following passwd entry:

xenophon:x:5015:5015:Xenophon Fenderson:/var/users/xenophon:/usr/bin/emacs

Fortunately for me, a friend (upon hacking root) promptly trundled me
off to Charter. (Yeah, Charter has emacs-detox. Who'd have guessed
it? Basically, it was a bunch of XTs running MS-DOS 2.11. The only
editors available were EDLIN and a really grungy port of VI. And if
you merely mentioned Richard Stallman, you were forced to recite Xenix
kernel source code! *shudder*)

This is way off topic of course, but ... that works reasonably well
in xemacs (for suitable definition of `clip art').

(with-noise-ahead
"
Well. Let's have the following context. The tool: MS Word 97. The
task: let's add a caption to a figure and have it stick to it while
having a reference to the caption in the text several pages ahead. Of
course the figure should be positioned - at least - as LaTeX does it.

Come on Bill, make my day! :)

All sufficiently interesting programs are eventually reimplemented as

psychoth'erapeute, machin universel. Or, c'est pas petit. GNU Emacs

`aXe' and `nedit' both do parenthesis matching. Both are _small_ editors
running under X11.
