HARLEQUIN RELEASES LISPWORKS 4.1
FOR WINDOWS 95, 98, WINDOWS NT AND UNIX PLATFORMS
Unified Windows/UNIX Release Supports Enterprise Solutions
With Cross-Platform Development and CORBA Interfaces

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (January 6, 1999) - Harlequin today announced the release
of LispWorks(R) 4.1, a major upgrade to its symbolic object-oriented
programming environment.

LispWorks 4.1 offers unified tools and application programming interfaces
(APIs) across Windows(R) and UNIX platforms, allowing high-level
cross-platform development. The release also includes a complete Internet
InterOrb Protocol (IIOP(tm)) compatible ORB(tm) and Interface Description
Language (IDL) compiler, supporting the full production and deployment of
industry-standard CORBA(R) objects in Common Lisp, the world's most
advanced compiled symbolic object-oriented language.

Symbolic Processing, Interoperability, Portability

The Common Lisp programming language has long been the acknowledged leader
in symbolic processing and other programming areas that require the
advanced manipulation of complex information. Common Lisp solutions have
been deployed in fields as diverse as aerospace engineering, airline
tracking, telephone switching, Internet commerce, and data mining. It is
an ideal tool for solving problems in today's information-rich, networked
computing world.

With LispWorks 4.1, Common Lisp solutions are portable across today's most
important enterprise computing platforms. LispWorks' complete suite of
libraries - including the Common Lisp Interface Manager GUI toolkit - is
completely portable across Windows and a variety of UNIX platforms.
Additional libraries include database access through ODBC and rule-based
programming with Harlequin's KnowledgeWorks(tm) expert system tool and
Common Prolog.

With the addition of Harlequin Common Lisp ORB, developers can write and
deploy modern application components that interoperate with components
written in other languages, including C++, Javaraphics libraries.

LispWorks 4.1 for the Windows Operating System

On Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NTR, LispWorks is available in three
Editions designed to serve a variety of computing needs:

7 LISPWORKS 4.1 PERSONAL EDITION is available free of charge from the
Harlequin Web site (http://www.harlequin.com/devtools/lisp). This Edition
is suitable for students and others learning Common Lisp.
7 LISPWORKS 4.1 PROFESSIONAL EDITION includes CLIM 2.0 and is suitable for
commercial software developers without enterprise software development needs.
7 LISPWORKS 4.1 ENTERPRISE EDITION includes CLIM 2.0, ODBC, KnowledgeWorks
and Harlequin Common Lisp ORB. It is suitable for the full range of
commercial and enterprise software development.

LispWorks 4.1 for UNIX

LispWorks 4.1 for UNIX is available in a single Edition that includes the
full development environment, compiler, cross-platform GUI toolkit, and
ODBC interfaces. CLIM 2.0, KnowledgeWorks, and Harlequin Common Lisp ORB
are available as separate UNIX options.
