I've been scouring the LISP FAQs for recent links, but so far I haven't
found what I'm looking for, so here goes.

Is there a place I can find a distribution of CLX that will work under
Redhat Linux?

I finally found CLX code at ftp://ftp.x.org/pub/unsupported/lib/CLX
after finding that other sites no longer existed. However, this code
seems to be intended for SGI/Sun/HP/DEC boxes.

I've tried compiling the CLX code under ACL and GCL (KCL) under Linux,
but with no success.

Since CLX is pretty crucial for other libraries (such as Garnet,
CLUE/CLIO) this is a fairly important step in getting a GUI set up.
However, due to a mountain of code written to run under ACL, I really
can't just shift over to CMUCL or CLISP to make CLX work.

Any suggestions? Is someone out there doing Linux support which I can
look at?

Thanks.

ACL comes with CLX already compiled:

-rw-r--r-- 1 mikemac root 1598110 Aug 29 1998 /usr/ACL5.0/code/clx.fasl

I just do (require :clx) and it loads.

Use the CLX that belongs to your implementation. The commercial
versions come with CLX. For CMUCL, there is (often) the "extras"
package that you can load, otherwise grab the sources from cons.org.
Don't know about Clisp, but they carry their own CLX as well.

Please post error messages and a repeatable description of what you
did when you ask for help about compiling errors.

The CLISP source distribution comes with both CLX and NCLX, a faster,
CLISP-specific reimplementation of CLX in C by Gilbert Baumann.

have you looked in the contrib/clx directory in the Allegro CL
installation directory? or found code/clx.fasl? as Marco said, it's
enough to say (require :clx) to load it. but I know how you feel,
looking at your own disk has a lot less charm than looking at other
people's disks over the Net. ;)

well, if you can't find it elsewhere, take a look at ftp.franz.com.
