To the Members of the Programming Community -

As you may have heard, Harlequin has recently gone through a restructuring
in its global software business. This restructuring included a reduction in
overall staffing by 14% and the closing of our Menlo Park office.

Harlequin remains committed to the support and future development of our
complete Tools product line, including LispWorks, LispWorks for the Windows
Operating System, Liquid Common Lisp, Harlequin Dylan, and MLWorks.

Our commitment to Tools is shown by some of our recent and upcoming actions.

To support the Lisp community, we recently released LispWorks for Windows
Personal Edition, available from our Web site at no charge. The Professional
Edition and the Enterprise Edition --- including CORBA support --- will be
available in upcoming weeks. We're also about to release updates and CORBA
support on UNIX, for both LispWorks and Liquid Common Lisp. These are just a
few of the Lisp-based projects going on at Harlequin.

We recently released version 2.0 of our MLWorks product. MLWorks has
received a very positive response from the ML community, and development
work is ongoing.

We released Dylan Personal and Professional last June. Version 1.1 has just
shipped, and Dylan Enterprise, with a built-in IIOP compliant ORB and a
CORBA-aware IDE, will be shipping in December.

We believe that Lisp, Dylan, ML, and advanced memory management technology
provide unique advantages in the software development process. We stand by
that belief by providing products and consulting to customers in a variety
of applications from telecommunications switches to deep space probes and
advanced web site development. We also use our own tools to build advanced
software in other markets.

Software Tools have played an important role in Harlequin's history, and
they will play an important role in Harlequin's future. We look forward to
sharing this future with you.

Yours,
John Hotchkiss
Director, Technologies Division
Harlequin Inc.
