does this group include autolisp  as used in autodesk's autocad??

i'm an architect who is a bit interested but have only minimal programming
background- so plain english is always helpful

While in principle a legitimate subject for this newsgroup,
most contributors hereabouts seem to be more from a Common Lisp
background, so they might suggest stuff that is not fully applicable to
Autocad, especially if you don't identify the environment in your
question (one AutoLisp question got recently answered in Emacs Lisp...).

I'd recommend comp.cad.autocad (IIRC) as a better forum for Autolisp
questions: the people there will probably need less explanation about
the context of any question.
