Exactly right. I've said the same thing, multiple times.
I think the basic problem is, as another reader has commented, that at the
English language level we've got a problem of semantics. You have a set of
properties associated with the concept "pointer" in your mind, and when I
talk about a pointer that doesn't have all those properties it bothers you.
I'll drop it now.
