There are many many programming languages that are all called "Lisp." The
commands they use vary widely and are often incompatible.
Common Lisp is a single language which contains all of the commands of all
the other lisps, and therefore is compatible (grin).

Common Lisp is one of the many dialects of Lisp which evolved in time
and finally became an ANSI language. It is not the union of all Lisp
dialects.
