Hello All,

I'm a CS senior and am taking a Computer Architecture class. Since I've
been playing with Lisp for a while (both on my own and in my AI class) I
thought it would be fun to do my term paper on Lisp Machines.

I'm mostly looking for papers (or pointer to papers) on the underlying
machine architecture. Special hardware designs, memory issues, etc. I
am also going to be contacting Xerox and TI for info on their Lisp
machines. (My breif research into Lisp Machines, Inc. and Symbolics
turned up nil on their Internet presence, any help would be appreciated.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Chris

Ah, the old turn-in-the-same-term-paper-for-multiple-classes trick.

There is a great paper by Moon on the Symbolics 3600 architecture. It
goes into all kinds of detail.

@article{moon87,
        author="David A. Moon",
        title="{Symbolics Architecture}",
        journal="IEEE Computer",
        year="1987",
        pages="43-54",
        month=Jan
        }

   Actually most of that month's issue has stuff related to Lisp/Smalltalk
   "machine" related articles.

    You might also wish to see if your local library has

	Kogge, Peter M. "The Architecture of Symbolic Computers"
	QA76.9.A73K64

    Which also has a "chapter" on lisp machines specifically. It sort of
    runs the spectrum by finishing with a section on "The Debate about
    Tag Support Hardware." as to why adding "complex hardware features"
    has fallen out of favor. And lots of pointers.

    P.S. was there ever one of these "technical papers" published for the
    Ivory chip?
