Franz Inc. is making available a version of our upcoming 3.0
version for Windows platforms available on our Web home page. The
version downloadable is pre-release, but we will be updating it from
time to time. This version includes a full implementation of CLOS
(the Common Lisp Object System), an in-core native 32-bit compiler, a
visual drag & drop Interface Builder, and full debugging and
development tools. It should run under Windows 3.1 (with win32s), WFW
3.11 (with win32s), NT and Windows 95. Below is the description that
comes with the version.
(For those of you who have Allegro CL 2.0 we will be releasing the full
3.0 release in a few weeks.)

I'm engaging on an MSc project for which a solid CLOS implementation
with good UI support is important. Therefore, I'm very interested in
this "No Cost version of CLOS" from Franz; since it allows me to
evaluate it before purchase. I have a strong prejudice in favour of
a Mac implementation, until now I'd intended to go with MCL and buy
a new Mac to run it.
However, if I could get the no-cost Franz item I'd evaluate that first
but there's the problem.
ftp.uu.net (where the Franz distribution is held) won't let me
anonymous FTP a copy. It complains that it can't map my IP address
to a hostname (little surprise there) and, therefore, refuses the
connection.
Great initiative, just a shame that the archive site is so picky.
