Can anyone out there tell me what the purpose of .fas files are.

We have recently acquired Franz Lisp, and I have a system written
in clisp.  Many of the files were .fas files.  I think these are
compiled files, however  Franz Lisp complained when these were loaded.
Once removed the system loaded and seems to be running.

If these files contain compiled code, then I can see how the new
system would complain.  Is this the case ??
