LOCATION: THE INSTITUTE FOR THE LEARNING SCIENCES - 
NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY
The Institute for the Learning Sciences is a leading 
research institute developing innovative computer 
implementations of new ideas in areas of training and 
education.

STATUS: Full-Time, 40 hours per week

JOB FUNCTION: This position is for someone to work with me 
on a new project, using qualitative reasoning and analogical 
reasoning techniques to develop a new kind of educational 
software.  The software to be built includes systems that enable
teachers to craft simulations and an intelligent learning
environment that teaches students how to build models,
both qualitative and quantitative.  The target student
populations range from elementary through high school
students.  This project is expected to last at least two
years, starting in June.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: This project requires a 
background in qualitative physics, a willingness to immerse 
yourself in the domains being taught, a committment to 
creating software that is usable by students, and some 
degree of programming skill (although there will be a full-
time programmer who will be doing the bulk of the coding).
