LOCATION: THE INSTITUTE FOR THE LEARNING SCIENCES - 
NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY
The Institute for the Learning Sciences is a leading 
research institute developing innovative computer 
implementations of new ideas in areas of training and 
education.

STATUS: Full-Time, 40 hours per week

JOB FUNCTION:  This job involves programming for a project 
that is using qualitative reasoning and analogical reasoning 
techniques to develop new kinds of educational software, 
specifically, ``articulate virtual laboratories�� for 
teaching thermodynamics and feedback. The target student 
populations are engineering undergradates and high school 
students.  This project is expected to last three years,
starting in April.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: This project requires a 
dedication to creating robust, efficient, and friendly 
software and excellent working knowledge of Common Lisp.  
Experience with CLIM, C++, and/or Visual Basic is also a 
plus, as is experience with artificial intelligence work and 
interface design.  The development and delivery platform 
will be Pentiums running Windows, so familiarity with that 
environment is also an advantage.
