There are lots of data types that don't have a specific PARSE-<type>
function.  There's no PARSE-SYMBOL, PARSE-ARRAY, PARSE-COMPLEX,
PARSE-RATIONAL, etc.

CLIM provides much of this, in a much more useful form.
