Actually, it's a really good analogy. English is the de-facto language of
business. While I might decide to learn a foreign language to gain
culture and appreciation, etc, it's not a real problem. On the other hand,
those whose native language is not English, have to learn it if they want
to do worldwide business.
Likewise, I learned lisp to gain an appreciation of what that world's all
about, but so long as I know C and perl, I can do business pretty much
anywhere :-)
