Thanks to all who replied, especially those who ventured an opinion as to
which of those available might be the best. Section 4 of the FAQ gives
details of many free and commercial Common Lisp implementations and, of
those it lists, I was recommended to try AKCL, XLISP and CLISP with the
former winning most acclaim. Since AKCL is known to compile and run under
Ultrix, that's the one I'll be going for.
