Springer Lecture Notes #637: Memory Management (1992) has an introductory 
article by Paul Wilson which contains an excellent bibliography.

That paper and several others are available via ftp, as is my bibliography
file, in bibtex format.  (The papers are in PostScript.)  The bibliography
has a bunch of new entries, especially about distributed GC's, thanks to
Richard Jones and Angela Dappert-Farquhar.  It's also been cleaned up a
bit.
